Help Dottie Heal: Urgent Toe Amputation Needed

Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Olivia. I am reaching out with a humble plea for help, my sweet rescue dog Dottie is in need of a toe amputation.

I took her to the vet as soon as I got her because her toe was severely swollen and infected, the vet lanced and cleaned her toe and sent us home with antibiotics but told us to bring her back if the issue didn’t fully resolve because there was a chance of bone damage. We returned this past week for X-rays, we got the bad news that the tip of her toe has been completely dislocated for a while and is in need of amputation. Without the surgery she is in pain and at risk for further complications as well as her paw never fully healing.

This story started by going on a camping trip in West Virginia at Lake Stephens. While setting up camp two dogs approached us due to the smell of chicken nuggets. The dogs were super friendly but scared and didn’t have any collars. We fed the two stray dogs the nuggets and went to bed. The next morning we asked the campground staff about the dogs. They informed us that they were dumped sometime before Easter. We knew we had to help. We ended up having to go home after a failed attempt at getting them comfortable enough to come with us in the car. A week later we made the 3 hour drive to try again. This time successfully getting Dottie, who needed serious medical attention on her paw. The next day we took her to the vet while the campground staff was able to get the puppy Dewie secured. A sweet lady (Connie, who had been feeding the dogs at camp) met us halfway to hand him off. The two were reunited and extremely happy to meet our two other dogs Rusty and Tooney.

The total cost of the surgery has been estimated to be around $4,500+. As much as we want to cover this ourselves times are tough and the cost is more than we can bear alone as we have already spent over $1000 dollars on the vet visits mentioned above.

Every dollar helps and even if you can’t help financially, sharing this campaign or saying a prayer for our sweet girl means the world to us and Dottie. She is a fighter and with your help she can finally live the pain free life she deserves.

Thank you so much for your kindness and support. It is appreciated more than you could know.

With gratitude,
Olivia
