It is with great sadness that we officially announce the tragic passing of Lobby Officer Dorthenia Martin-Boomer's beloved son, Dr. Marvin Boomer. He was affectionately known as "Boomer" to many of his students, colleagues, family and friends.
On Wednesday, May 28th, he was walking along the sidewalk with his girlfriend when a car that had been chased by California Highway Patrol, ran off the road, hitting and killing him, two days before graduation. He worked at Castlemont High School in Oakland, California for eight years. First as a math teacher, more recently as a college and career coach with the Pathways program.
At any given moment, he would lend a helping hand without any reservation or hesitation to ensure that others had what they needed to be successful. He shaped the lives of countless people in the community and school district. He was more than a teacher; he was a mentor, a friend, and a source of strength and inspiration in the halls of Castlemont.
The Chesapeake Sheriff's Office would like to extend our deepest condolences to everyone impacted by the loss of Dr. Marvin Boomer. May his legacy live on in his family, school community, and in the countless lives he helped shape.
We would like to be a beacon of light and a source of help and strength to her and her family. We are asking for donations to assist with funeral service costs, transport of his body to Virginia, memorial arrangements, and other related expenses. Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference.
