Help Dorothy Rebuild After Flood Disaster
Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Dorothy Hudson, and I am 65 years old. I live in a freshly built senior development. In August, it has been a year since I have lived here. On Saturday evening, I received a call from my neighbor stating that my apartment had been flooded due to the sprinkler system bursting. It was so bad that my ceilings fell in and my refrigerator was floating. My neighbor also stated that due to the water pressure, they were initially unable to open the door, and when they finally got the door open, water started rushing down the hallways and down the stairs. I then received a phone call from the property manager about the incident, and she stated that all of my items had been destroyed and everything in my apartment needed to be thrown away because it was unsalvageable. It just so happened that during all of this, I was at my daughter's home (thank God), because had I been home, it is highly possible that I would not be here today. I have been told by management that there is nothing they can do for me and that I should have had renter’s insurance because their insurance does not cover my personal property. Due to this incident, I have lost items of sentimental value that can never be replaced, along with some high-ticket items as well. At this time, I do not have a home to return to, unlike the rest of the residents, nor do I have any furniture. I had brand new furniture and a brand new recliner, and now I am left with nothing. It has taken a bit of a toll on me emotionally and mentally, and I am still trying to process everything. I am normally a strong person, but this situation is very depressing. Thank you for taking the time out to read my story. Any assistance will be gladly appreciated.
-Thank you
