My name is Dorothy, and I’m reaching out for help for myself and my children after a year filled with challenges I never expected to face. In March 2024, I lost my job, and soon after, my husband and I separated. I worked hard to make my crochet business official, but my health took a turn for the worse. I underwent lumbar decompression fusion in November 2024 and cervical spine decompression fusion in March 2025. Despite everything, I managed to hold on to my home and car for as long as I could, but eventually lost both.
On top of these life changes, I’ve been diagnosed with several serious health conditions, including major depressive disorder, anxiety, PTSD, hiatal hernia, Barrett’s esophagus, silent acid reflux, degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, and spinal stenosis. These are just the new diagnoses since March 2024—there are others I’ve been managing for years, like polyps, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, adenomyosis, and severe allergies. The medications I need are many, and I even have allergies to some of them.
Now, my home is in foreclosure, my credit cards are in collections, and my vehicle has been repossessed. I receive food stamps and some assistance through IHSS, and I’m grateful to my boyfriend for letting me live with him and borrow his car. My ex-husband helps with our son Grayson, and my daughter’s father is involved, but there have been difficult custody and legal battles. Because of my medical needs and the medications I take, the court has required me to complete a substance abuse evaluation.
I am looking to use these funds to pay for the evaluation, hopefully find a reliable used car with no payments, and cover basic living expenses like hygiene, clothes, shoes, and gas for court and family visits. My kids are growing fast, and there are always new expenses.
It literally takes a village in life and I’m begging for your help. No amount is too small and everything really matters to my family right now. This will help my daughter get to be at home with her brother and I and will allow for me to not have to put all the things I need to do on someone else. My family and I thank you so much, even if it’s just reading and sharing.
