Help Dorothea survive congenital heart disease
Spende geschützt
Hi! For those who don't know me, my name is Brett, and I am an actor/content creator and server in Los Angeles. I am a big Swiftie and fellow cat lover. In May of 2022, I rescued a female kitten after a very toxic breakup. She quickly became my therapy kitty and my best friend, and has helped me heal from some recent personal trauma I've gone through. I am beyond grateful to have her by my side. I named her Dorothea after Taylor Swift's song on her Evermore album, titled "Dorothea. Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting Dorothea, knows what a sweet and social kitty she is. Sadly, I noticed Dorothea struggling to breathe and not moving this week. After bringing her to the emergency vet, they ran a bunch of tests and we found out she has a rare heart disease that 1 to 2 percent of kittens are born with. While some kittens outgrow the holes in their heart, Dorothea's are multiple and at a stage that is very concerning for her age. Her lungs have been filling with fluid, which can eventually lead to congestive heart failure. I don't have all the medical terms down, but essentially the doctor told me I need to be prepared for the worst and also prepare myself financially, as the tests (and potential surgery needed) will be extremely expensive.
I now have to take her to a cardiologist to have an echogram, which will cost $950. From there, depending on how her heart looks, they've told me they will likely have to do more tests or potential surgery, which will be a few more thousand dollars, so I'm trying to prepare for what is ahead. Kittens with her condition tend to only live 6 months to a year after diagnosis, but there are cats that can live longer with medication. They won't know if that is possible until these further steps are taken on this next visit. I had to pay $1,000 upfront for her tests this week. While I do have pet insurance, unfortunately, you have to pay upfront and then submit the claim. This process can take a long time, and with the kind of insurance I have, not everything will be covered moving forward. I hate asking for money, but as someone who currently lives paycheck to paycheck, I am not sure I will be able to afford the care Dorothea needs as urgently as she needs it. I need to come up with at least $950 so I am able to get her seen by a cardiologist ASAP! I am so heartbroken and just want my baby to be okay. Any help financially is appreciated, but what is more important to me is prayers and good energy sent her way. She is a special kitten who is so loved, and I want to figure out the best solution for her as quickly as possible.
