Help Dorlisa With Handicap Automobile Controls

Dorlisa Jones is a 46 year-old female from Louisville, KY.
She was diagnosed at age three (3) with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disorder,
which is extremely rare in the U.S.

The disorder is a degenerative nerve disease that damages the nerves in  the arms and legs. Symptoms include: smaller weaker muscles, loss of sensation, muscle contractions and walking.

As a child she wore AFO leg braces, to assist with walking until she would undergo ankle fusion surgery, at sixteen (16) years-old.

After a successful surgery she was able to walk without the AFO leg braces but she experienced a permanent limp. Dorlisa would obtain her driver's license at 16 years-old - and pretty much functioned as a normal teenager.

However, over the years, the weakness of her muscles would cause Dorlisa to experience multiple falls, which resulted in multiple broken legs and toes.

In 2009 at age 34, she experienced her most serious fall, which caused her right tibia and right fibula bones to break - leaving her leg dangling by primarily tendons.

Another surgery was required, resulting in the placement of metal rods in her legs. Since that 2009 fall, Dorlisa has been bound to a wheelchair.

In 2016, her father would pass away and her mother is currently 76 years-old. Dorlisa lives at home with her mother - and although her mother is active and healthy - Dorlisa desires to begin driving again, due to the age of her mother.

Due to her disorder, Dorlisa needs a Veigal Automotive Driving Control System, installed on her vehicle, which aids handicap drivers. Essentially, the braking system and accelerator pedal are converted to hand controls on the steering column.  http://www.blvd.com/hand-controls/viegel-automotive#products

Dorlisa completed a free consultation and practice driving class with Superior Van & Mobility in Louisville, KY, on May 21, 2021 (video above).

The cost for the Veigel conversion is $2,159 USD
She would also require fifteen (15) driving class sessions, which cost $150 per hour - for a total of $1,500.
Lastly, she requires a Veigal Transfer Board, at a cost of $800.

Dorlisa is fully disabled and lives on a fixed monthly income, making the total cost of $5,200, out of her budget.

The  Veigal Conversion would be life changing for Dorlisa Jones. She would not only be able to transport herself to doctor's appointments, the grocery store  and complete other errands. It would also enable her to operate the household vehicle, in emergency situations.

If you find it in your heart and budget to support Dorlisa with this much needed vehicle conversion - she thanks you from the bottom of her heart.
