Hi family and friends,
I wanted to start a GoFundMe page for my mom, Dorinda Fortney, as she begins the journey to fight breast cancer. Mom is keeping very positive and leaning into her faith in God, but I'd like to provide a system of support for her. One big way we can all help is by giving what we're able for medical financial relief.
My mom has been working two jobs and has stepped in as a mom role to raise her first grandchild, NeeCee Wright, now age 10. She has a home with NeeCee and her husband, Randy Fortney, in Raytown, MO. Along with assisting the medical expenses, I would like for this GoFundMe page to act as a connection point to share a lot of love and encouragement.
Please consider helping to lighten the financial burden and lift the spirits of such a wonderful and caring mom, sister, wife, grandma, and friend to so many. My mom is a true blessing, and I know together we can be a blessing back.
As she finds out more information, I'll be sure to add real-time updates; as well as, her progress.
10/17 She was diagnosed.
10/26 Doctors revealed that it's stage 3.
10/29 More testing done to find out if the cancer has spread to any other parts of her body.
10/31 Results of 10/29 testing: Doctors found two more spots on chest, so another biopsy to be scheduled soon.
11/1 Port is on schedule for 11/1, but chemotherapy has now been cancelled to start 11/2 due to the spots found on chest from 10/29 testing.
11/9 Biopsy scheduled to test two spots found on chest. Once results come in, doctors will then determine next move for treatment. Keeping prayerful and hoping for the best.
11/13 Mom received amazing news that the two spots on her chest are negative for cancer. Praise Jesus! We're back on track for her to start chemo Friday.
11/16 First chemo treatment starts.
11/23 Chemo #2. Done! Mom took a nap when she got home then she was up and at it. It's very promising to see that she's starting off so strong and optimistic! Very little side effects. Go mom go!
11/30 Chemo #3 scheduled. This is a BIG day as the doctors will be able to tell if the chemo is shrinking the tumor. I believe it is! Excited for the results. :)
PRAISE ALERTS!!!
*+*+*+*+*+*+* They measured mom and the tumor is shrinking a little! We'll take it! *+*+*+*+*+*+*
12/7 Chemo #4! Mom wasn't sure if her blood work would pass to get her next treatment done, but she worked hard all week and ate a bunch of nutritious food (bone broth soups and leafy greens!). Her platelets were low at 105, but she got them up to 119! Go Mom go! So very proud of you!
12/14 Mom is kicking butt! Platelets are up to 137, and another round of chemo treatments done! Mom's birthday is next Friday, the 21st! Let's keep her feeling the upmost loved and encouraged! We are so grateful for everything!
12/21 Mom is 51! Happy birthday mom! Sorry you have to go through chemo today. We love you so much! Way to keep optimistic and yourself. We know this can't be easy, and we're cheering you on every step of the way!
12/28 First day mom wasn't able to do chemo due to low white blood cell count, but that's okay! Praying for an extra week of rest, healing, health, and a dose of extra strength as mom tries again come next Friday! You got this beautiful!
1/4 Mom hasn't felt great this past week. Very tired and weak with muscle aches and pains. With a bunch of rest and prayers, we are glad to say that Mom was able to have chemo today! Woohoo!
1/11 Good news! Mom is feeling a lot better! The doctor says everything looks excellent! :):) Mom will end chemo treatments 3/29 and then be measured by sonogram to see how much the tumor has shrunk! Tumor size started at 2cm x 9cm. If all goes accordingly, surgery is to be scheduled end of April.
1/18 Mom is rooting for the Chiefs! Kansas City proud! She got to have her chemo treatment today too. We're cheering you on more than any football game! Love you bunches!
1/24 Mom wasn't able to have chemo today as her platelet count was too low. But she got to meet with a nutritionist to set up a diet plan and set goals to break bad food habits. Awesome! She also got to meet with a geneticist to be tested for the BRAC gene. Mom has been experience more days of being sick or more and more tired. Let's keep praying for Mom's health physically, mentally, and spiritually. God works good into all things! I can only imagine how many lives Mom is touching through this.
1/31 Thank you for your continued prayers, love, and support! Mom was able to have chemo today! Her blood work looks good! She will go in the next two Fridays for treatments then a one week break before her chemo plan is changing to a one week on and one week off. The medicine for these will be harsher. Her double mastectomy surgery is now planned for May.
2/8 Below is a pic of Mom, her friend Rhonda, and the nurse. Mom's smile makes my heart incredibly happy! :) She shared really awesome news with us today! She tested negative for the BRCA gene. Praise the Lord!
2/15 Mom finished her first round of chemo treatments. She will get a one week break before starting the next round of medicine. The new regimen will last for 8 weeks and Mom will now have to take steroids following every treatment. She's worried about getting sleep. Big prayers that her body responds well to the new medicine and steroids. And that she can rest. She is scheduled to meet with the surgeon on the 25th.
2/25 Mom visited the surgeon to discuss her needs and the plan for the double mastectomy. The doctor was not very friendly and Mom felt rushed to get in and out. He didn't care to respond back with supportive and clear answers to her questions, and all around he was a horrible listener. This was of course very frustrating for Mom, and I hate that she was there alone to be treated like that. Big prayers that other options come her way, and she finds a surgeon that has some empathy. Or if she has to stick with this one, that their next conversation sets a better tone.
3/1 First round of AC regimen chemo treatments and steroids! Mom is feeling very tired, but she's able to eat fine. They're giving her nausea medication too as these chemo doses are known to be harsher and have more side effects than what she was previously on. Big prayers that Mom's white blood count levels stay high, so she can stay on schedule for her surgery. Thank you for your prayers and supporting where you can with your words and dollars! She's so close to the end of this, and she's blessed to not go one day alone. God is good!
Any donations given through the GoFundMe site will be sent direct to her account as the sole beneficiary. The site take 3%; as well as, .30 each submission. If you'd like to send a gift direct to her home, I can provide her address if needed. Please email me at [email redacted].
Many thanks and God's blessings for your prayers, words of love, and financial support!
