Hi everyone, this is Jonathan. You may have known we recently rescued a little young cat (called Dorian now) on our work trip to California. He had an actively wounded nose, and we were concerned for his well-being after learning that he was a stray, struggling to find food in that neighborhood. There was also an active situation with aggressive dogs in the area, which seemed to be a source of him looking for food. We brought him home, and he’s been doing well. Slowly, over the last three weeks, he has healed up and returned to energy and weight. We had him tested for the two big issues, but we did not have him tested for herpes, a common issue for strays in colonies, it turns out. We introduced him into our group thinking we were good, and apparently, he was having an active outbreak of feline herpes in the mix, and it spread within our little group of house cats. Thus, each of them has become a little sick, with two getting more so. I have now taken one cat (Dexter) to the emergency vet to learn all of this after waking up to him not well..and it looks like I’ll be needing to take at least one other in as well for for some support.
I’m gonna ask my pet-caring friends and community if you are able to help a little bit towards these cost as these bills don’t come at a good time following a few things that happened on that same trip that some of you are aware of. If you can give a little to help me get these addressed with the vets help, that would be amazing. Feline herpes only transfers between cats (not dogs or humans) and symptoms are managed rather than cured, however it can be
I will post updates as we go. UPDATE 1- Dexter has been seen via emergency, hydrated and given pin/swelling meds today and is resting…Stuart needs to go in next.
If you cannot help financially, then prayers and love sent this way are much appreciated.
