Help Doreen Regain Independence with RotoBed

Hi Everyone, my name is Theresa ; the bonus child of the Durante family. As most of you may know, Doreen was diagnosed with ALS at the beginning of this year. If you aren't aware of what ALS is, it is a non-curable disease of the nervous system that weakens/deteriorates the muscles and physical functions of a person.

For Doreen this has in just 5 months impacted her life tremendously. She has lost almost all mobility of her left arm and has begun to lose it in her right as well. Her legs are also losing strength. She relies on a walker for short distances inside her home and an electric wheelchair for all other activity. Unfortunately with this fast pace disease Doreen, who is one of the most independent people; has had to learn to rely on others to get through her everyday life. Something as simple as a shower, drying her hair, or even getting out of bed has become an issue for her to do on her own. Her beautiful family works hard everyday to help with all of this daily.

The reason I am making this GoFundMe is so she can feel a little more independence, and make her more comfortable by being able to get herself out of bed, and also help with some of her medical bills as she has been to many doctors from as far as the Mayo Clinic to Hershey and Penn State. The bed we are looking to purchase is quite expensive, it is called a RotoBed, which is a fully automatic rotation bed. This bed would allow her to get in and out of bed with no physical effort. Doreen is one of the most selfless people I know, the whole Durante family is. She has helped all of us at some point of another. She would do anything for anyone, she loves so hard and makes sure you know how much you mean to her. She would never ask for help herself, but I believe everyone could use a little help now and then and I really think this bed would improve her quality of life for not only her comfort but also her confidence; and I would really like to see the family get some relief of the stress of medical bills as well.
