Dora Thorne has dedicated her entire life to caring for animals in need. As a veterinary technician, veterinary clinic practice manager, animal control officer, and wildlife rehabilitator, she has spent decades helping creatures great and small. For years, Dora has worked closely with multiple Bull Terrier rescues, and more recently, she has opened her heart and home to adopting geriatric dogs, determined to give them the best final years possible. Her compassion and commitment have touched the lives of so many animals—and the people who love them.

Recently, Dora adopted Porkie, an endearing "foster fail" from the Bull Terrier Rescue of Central Florida. Porkie required significant medical intervention for a sarcoptic mange infestation, uncontrolled dry eye disease, and periodontal disease. Dora willingly took on Porkie's care and nursed him back to health. However, shortly after coming home, Porkie was found to have a mass in his airway. He underwent surgery to remove it, but unfortunately, complications arose. Porkie is now hospitalized at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, where he is receiving intensive care for aspiration pneumonia, oxygen support, and management of a temporary tracheostomy. The medical bills are mounting, and while the total cost is still unknown, Dora is doing everything she can to give Porkie the best chance at recovery.
