Donovan Ferrufino, age 12, a rising 7th grader at George M. Hampton Middle School and a youth football player with 703 United – 12U - Spartan Unit, sustained an injury during a tournament football game in Williamsburg, VA, on August 6th. He was immediately taken to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment and then transferred to the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk, VA, for surgery and recovery. It was determined that Donovan suffered a break in the femur bone of the right leg. During the surgery on his right leg, doctors discovered it was not a clean break and would require more time to heal. In addition, while still at the hospital after the surgery, Donovan had pressure and swelling in his left leg and needed another surgery to relieve the stress and swelling in that leg. His recovery time at the hospital has been extended due to delayed leg and nerve tissue healing. Donovan and his family are devastated by his injury, and Donovan has been dealing with a lot in coming to terms with the fact that he will not be able to play football this upcoming season. Hopefully, he will be able to return home to Woodbridge, VA, by the end of this week to continue the rest of his recovery at home. He will have to utilize the assistance of a walker until he can maneuver crutches. It will be a significant adjustment for him. With school getting ready to start, Donovan and his family are preparing themselves to handle it all the best way they can by staying positive and helping him heal.
Your help is greatly appreciated to help Donovan and Nicole during his recovery. To help offset the time his mom, Nicole, will have to take off from work, costs to get Donovan to and from treatments, and unforeseeable additional medical treatment, our team has established a GoFundMe page to support her and Donovan during this time. All funds received will be transferred to Nicole to benefit Donovan. Please consider donating today.
