My name is Donny, and I’ve always worked hard to support my girlfriend and our two kids. Everything changed suddenly when I tried to put my son in his highchair and started feeling lightheaded. I told my girlfriend something wasn’t right, and the next thing I knew, I had blacked out and had a seizure. At first, I tried to ignore it, but after four more seizures, I went to the ER. That’s when I learned it wasn’t just my head—it was my heart. I was diagnosed with a third-degree heart block, and my heart rate dropped to zero multiple times. The doctors had to put a temporary pacemaker in my neck, and now I have a permanent pacemaker in my chest to keep my heart in rhythm.

I never imagined I’d be in this position. I applied for temporary disability through my work, but was told I wasn’t eligible, even though I’ve paid into it for years. After almost four years at my job, all they could offer was FMLA, which doesn’t provide any income. Now, I’m unable to work and am struggling to support my family. We’re facing bills for food, diapers, wipes, medical expenses, and utilities, and I have no way to get to my medical appointments without help. I’m just asking for a little support to help us get through this tough time until I can get back to work, which I hope will be in about a month.
