Help Donna With Medical Expenses & Equipment

Hi, My name is Brenda, I am one of Donna’s sisters and am hoping to raise funds to assist her with costly medical equipment, medications, travel expenses and lost wages in the upcoming months from the unexpected partial leg amputation she has just undergone .

3 weeks ago Donna started experiencing extreme foot and leg pain. She attended the Soldiers Memorial emerg department and was diagnosed with a blood clot. She was transferred to RVH for emergency surgery and was discharged 3 days later. 2 days after discharge she went back to emerg with another blood clot. She was again transported to RVH for another emergency surgery to remove the clot and repair her vein. Unfortunately the clot caused irreparable damage to part of her left foot and surgery was scheduled for amputation of her foot. Sadly, prior to surgery additional clots were detected which resulted in another emergency surgery to remove the clots and a temporary bypass was completed. These clots again caused irreparable damage to more veins and Donna had to have her left leg amputated below her knee this past Thursday.

Donna is the most resilient and stubborn person I know so I have no doubt she will conquer this challenge. The doctor told her today how surprised he is by how far she has progressed already.

There are modifications needed in Donna and Gordie’s home to enable her to move comfortably within it and a ramp for the stairs at the entrance to accommodate her wheelchair and eventually a walker. She will undoubtedly have many months of travelling ahead of her for physiotherapy before and after a prosthetic has been fitted not to mention the months before she is able to return to work.
