Update on Donna ❤️

Donna still needs our help.

For over 20 years, Donna has battled Lupus, a cruel disease that slowly attacked her kidneys. Even as it drains her physically and emotionally, she refused to give up. She tries to continue working full-time because she depended on her employer’s medical insurance. But as we all know, having insurance doesn’t mean everything is covered — and the costs quickly add up.

In 2017, Donna received a kidney transplant. Sadly, that kidney has now failed. She is back on dialysis, fighting for her life all over again. The wait for another transplant is long and uncertain. Dialysis is once again a constant part of her life, taking a serious toll on her health, her ability to work, and her financial stability.

To remain on the transplant list, she must complete extensive and very expensive medical testing. Because she could no longer afford the testing, take time off work, or physically keep up with the dialysis demands, she made the heartbreaking decision to remove herself from the transplant list.

After Thanksgiving, Donna became very sick and was hospitalized when she was unable to receive the dialysis she desperately needs to survive. To make matters worse, there was a complication with her dialysis port that caused severe bleeding. She lived for weeks worried about bleeding out before she could finally see a surgeon.

She has now had surgery to repair the port and is slowly recovering. She is trying to get back on track with dialysis, but this fight is far from over.
