Help Rebuild My Family’s Home and Community After Hurricane Melissa

Hello everyone,

Imagine watching the town you grew up in, where your loved ones still live, being destroyed in real time on the news. You’re thousands of miles away, praying your family survives, and wondering if they’ll even have a home left to return to.

My name is Donna Haynes O’Malley, and this is my reality. I grew up in Cameron Hill, Maggotty, in St. Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica, where much of my family still lives. You may have seen our community mentioned in recent reports — Hurricane Melissa made landfall right in our area, near Black River, leaving behind heartbreaking devastation.

The images on TV and social media cannot truly capture what my family and neighbors are living through. Many of them have lost everything. Homes are severely damaged or completely destroyed.

There is no electricity, and people are spending nights in the open among wreckage and debris. During the day, they search desperately for clean drinking water, food, and safe shelter. It could take months before power and roads are restored.

I am reaching out with an urgent plea for help. My heart breaks knowing how much my family and community are suffering, and I simply don’t have the means to rebuild on my own. Every contribution — no matter how small — will go directly toward providing clean water, temporary shelter, and materials to start rebuilding.

Solar power generator for essential electricity while waiting for power line repair - several will be purchased so families can share them. (~$12,000)

Water tank replacements for clean water access - enough for at least four families. (~$3,000)

Roof materials to repair missing and damaged roofs, and if money permitting some limited home repairs. (~$13,000)

Transport of materials plus taxes and fees ($3,500)

There are many more needs but this is a small start. These resources will be shared not only with my family, but with their neighbors in Cameron Hill, so you will be sharing with people through your generous assistance.
