Steven Marsee is hosting this fundraiser to help with his mother and stepfather's recovery after a serious house fire.
Sunday evening, March 30th, Donna and Kenny Howe of Middlesboro, Kentucky, were devastated by a home fire. The fire department was quick to arrive, remove them from their home, and immediately provide them with treatment. Kenny suffered some burns to his face and arms and smoke inhalation.
Donna was recovered from the bathroom floor where she had taken shelter below the smoke; she was removed and needed medical care for smoke inhalation as well.
Currently, they are in Vanderbilt Hospital's burn unit for recovery. Kenny and Donna are unaware of the damage at this time. The family is doing all they can to get everything done to help them with their transition from the hospital to temporary housing.
The state of things and their health mean that recovery without more trauma for them is our utmost concern. Steven is asking for donations for any essentials or needs that Kenny and Donna may have as they exit the hospital.
This includes gas for travel as well as overnight stays away from home. They are going to be going back and forth quite often to doctors and for rehabilitation, and will need to be transported safely. They cannot drive themselves, and we will be unable to keep a normal schedule for a while. We just want to be as available as possible. The funds will be given directly to Kenny and Donna for their discretion and use. While insurance will be involved, until they can begin the process and help, Kenny and Donna will most likely be out of the hospital before these needs can be processed.
***Update. The fire recovery is a slow process. Kenny lost nearly everything. He currently has a bag full of clothing which are being deep cleaned to be wearable again. Some of his favorite shirts and things that will be soft against his skin. A few photos, keepsakes, and other pieces that can be cleaned and have been retrieved for him. His car did take damage from the fire as well, and we will work with his auto insurance for that. We need help finding someone to mow the lawn at the house as well. We are working with insurance for housing for Kenny, as he will need it in a few weeks. We want to build a care basket with as many items as possible for his daily needs. This will include laundry bins, detergent, soap, clothing, dishes, toiletries, linens, and whatever he requests. It's our job to get it fulfilled for him. He will be in recovery for many months. There will also be expenses due to the funeral, and the funds from this GoFundMe are for that as well. Anything above and beyond insurance, any personal needs of Kenny's, any funeral costs, and any bills will be taken care of with your help.
If you feel led to help, I hope you will. If you cannot financially, please keep Kenny and Donna in your prayers because they are the currency of heaven.
Thank you all, and thank you to friends and family who are already helping so much.
Love and Blessings,
Steven Marsee and Family and Friends
