Hello everyone, I am Alicia Moore, Donna Hilgers (Formerly Hagen) daughter Donna lives in SD now but raised a family of 5 children: Zach, John, Jacob, Scott, and myself in Elbow Lake, MN.
Back in 2022, Donna had gone to her chiropractor for an adjustment, and X-rays were done prior. In the X-rays, it had shown some concerning spots on her lungs, so she got sent to her primary doctor. Multiple tests and scans were done during that time, and a biopsy was done as well. It was confirmed as Adenocarcinoma Lung Cancer. Mom went down to the Mayo hospital in Rochester, MN, where they performed surgery to remove her lower lobe of her left lung. During that time, she suffered from a collapsed lung and had to stay in the hospital longer than anticipated.
After another year of routine appointments and scans, another spot was slowly starting to grow larger. The decision was to do 5 rounds of pinpoint radiation. Fast forward to this year, routine tests and scans began showing spots in both lungs. Mom had a bronchoscope biopsy done on both lungs and her lymph nodes. After that biopsy, Mom suffered another collapsed lung and ended up in the hospital overnight once again.
Mom got to go home the day before Halloween and was alright for a few days but started experiencing pain again and ended up seeing her primary. At that time, scans showed that her lung had re-collapsed, so she ended up in Fargo again for 2 more nights. During the stay, the results came back on all the biopsies, and it was confirmed that it was the same cancer again. At this time, since it spread to her lymph nodes, it is classified as stage 4. After this, her doctors wanted more scans done on her pelvic and abdomen, which were clear and good, but an MRI was done on her brain, which shows multiple different spots. Mom had pinpoint radiation done on her brain the day before Thanksgiving, and as of now, we are waiting to hear when chemotherapy will start for the rest of the treatment.
Any donations will go towards travel expenses, days missed from work, and medical bills. Anything helps to ease some stress during these difficult times. We will update more once we have more information.
Thank you to everyone, even for a share.
