Hi everyone, first off, thank you for taking the time to read this GoFundMe request.
My name is Cher, and I am doing this by the request of my mom, Donna, who is 86 years old and isn't computer savvy.
My mom has gone through a lot since 2021, beginning with the loss of her husband of over 50 years, followed by the loss of her firstborn son who passed away in 2023 after a 5-year fight with esophageal cancer. She has held on with the love and support of her family and friends, as well as her feistiness and will to live. Since then, she's been hit with some health issues, but the health concern causing the GoFundMe is a dental issue. She needs to have some extractions done, and even with her insurance and the help of all us kids, we are still short the money to have her treated properly. All the medications she is on have slowly caused deterioration of her front teeth, causing a painful infection. The dentist wanted to do an entire workup, including new dentures, but at my mom's age, she said she doesn't want to endure all of that. The dentist said she could extract the bad teeth (either all 4 or the 2 worst ones), and the cost would be significantly less than the original estimate. The dentist is willing to discount the removal of 2 teeth to $1600 (circled in green in the photo). The items circled in yellow in the photo show the cost per tooth if we removed all 4, just to give you an idea. The reason the cost is so high is because the teeth are erupted, requiring bone and sectioning of the tooth, replacement graft for ridge replacement, and guided tissue regeneration. I'm sure there's more, but that's what I recall, and that's per tooth. Not your typical extraction. The area is already infected, and they've provided antibiotics. The goal is to stop the infection from spreading and remove the bad teeth.
My mom's on a fixed income; between rent, groceries, and utilities, there's no real cushion financially. We all currently help out, but we could definitely use the help. She does have insurance, including dental, but it doesn't cover much. My mom came to me today concerned about the infection spreading and asked if I could assist her with making a GoFundMe, hoping she could get some help financially, so here I am. I know nowadays times are tougher than normal, I get it. We are all going through some tough times, but if you could find it within your heart to donate $1, $5, $10, $20, whatever you can afford. Actually, anything helps; whatever you can is greatly appreciated. If you are not able to donate, please share the link, pass it on. Word of mouth helps too. I've included some screenshots of the initial estimate along with her photo and what she's dealing with. Thank you in advance for your consideration and taking the time to read my mom's request.
