My nephew Donavin started to feel weak and tired Thursday night. He began to throw up and have stomach issues early friday morning. We thought a stomach bug or flu. (Last thing he ate was chicken over rice e and beef patty at a local restaurant) He was getting worse. And like delirious. We took him to bgh Monday morning they took bloodwork and a CT. His potassium was so high it was affecting his heart and if we had waited any longer he could have went into cardiac arrest. He got transferred to upstate children's hospital. They sent their own team down to get Donavin as it was a very serious case. They said he was in kidney failure and started dialysis immediately after getting a central line in his groin area.
They had a Foley placed, (was removed Wednesday as he would not be producing any urine) he isnt and still hasn't produced urine in almost a week. Hes had dialysis everyday. They said he had e coli and they dont know if his kidneys stopped working from dehydration or if theirs another underlying cause
Then he went under anesthesia for the 1st timme and they moved his central line from groin area to neck/chest area. They took a biopsy from kidneys and from his intestines. Results take over 24 hrs. Hes slowly able to eat and drink now.
Once the results come back for biopsy theyll know if the damage to kidneys is acute meaning it happened suddenly or if its an underlying issue we didn't know about. Once back theyll know if steroids will work or not. Very worse case he'd need a transplant. He must stay in hospital until they feel its safe enough to do dialysis every other day but for now its a must to do everyday
Donavin has graduated from picu to a regular room. This means hes slowly getting better. We will most likely still be here in a week due to dialysis everyday and his bloodwork still being bad, But im thankful that hes improved enough to be moved to a better room.

The kidney doctors came and and said 1 of 3 biopsy results came back and he had acute tubular necrosis which meant some parts of his kidney was dying. They are optimistic that he will make a recovery it will just take time. He will continue to do dialysis daily and their hopes for him is to see if his body can tolerate every other day. If his body can tolerate it the next steps will be traveling to and from Syracuse 3 times a week. We currently do not have a vehicle.

He was discharged but he has to come to and from Syracuse 3 times week for dialysis. He cant miss a day he cant risk any infections cuz catheter goes to his heart. His Mom Jessica has been out of work and by his side the entire time. Donavin is in his senior year of high school and is also missing work.

Anything will help! Thank you!
