Our son is a warrior.
At just 6 days old, his life took a drastic turn. He was diagnosed with severe jaundice, with a dangerously high bilirubin level of 49%. We rushed him to the emergency room, where he received an immediate blood transfusion. That quick action saved his life — but it couldn’t undo the damage that had already been done.
As parents, we began a heartbreaking journey of discovering what our baby had suffered. The jaundice caused Kernicterus, a rare but devastating form of brain damage. He was later diagnosed with Dystonia, a neurological movement disorder that causes painful, uncontrollable muscle contractions.
His condition affects almost every part of his life:
• Hearing: He was diagnosed with Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder (ANSD). Though his ears “hear,” the signals are jumbled by the time they reach his brain.
• Vision: He wears strong glasses to help control his eyes from crossing — his vision has been impacted since infancy.
• Movement & Independence: He cannot walk or sit up unassisted. Simple actions like holding a fork or spoon require immense effort and muscle strain. Every bite he eats is a challenge.
Yet through it all — he smiles. He tries. And we, as his parents, fight for him every single day.
Why We’re Asking for Help
We want to give our son every possible chance at a better life. After extensive research and discussions with specialists, we believe Stem Cell Therapy offers real hope. This treatment could help ease his muscle tightness, improve mobility, and possibly strengthen his neural pathways. It’s not a cure — but it could be life-changing.
Unfortunately, Stem Cell Therapy is not covered by insurance and requires significant funding. That’s why we’re asking for your help.
Your support will go toward:
• The cost of stem cell therapy treatments
• Travel and medical expenses
• Specialized therapies and equipment that improve his daily quality of life
Our Greater Purpose — Spreading Awareness
Many people think jaundice is common and harmless — but that isn’t always true. Severe jaundice, if left untreated, can lead to irreversible brain damage. We want our story to help bring awareness to this silent risk, and prevent this from happening to other children.
Please Join Us in Giving Our Son Hope
If you’re able to donate — thank you. If you can share our story — thank you. Every act of kindness brings us one step closer to helping our son live a fuller, more comfortable life.
From our hearts to yours — thank you for supporting our journey.
With gratitude,
LaDonna and Family
