On the night of December 10, 2023, Alfredo was involved in a head-on collision. As He was exiting off Route 21 in Passaic a vehicle was driving up the wrong way on the exit ramp striking him head-on. His car was totaled and by the grace of God, he walked away with a broken right arm and wrist. Now it’s 7 weeks later and finally found out that the other vehicle had no insurance. So not only is his arm still broken, which is causing more damage each day that passes, but this delay affects Alfredo’s rehabbing and getting back to work. Once the surgery is completed it will still take 6-8 months before He will be able to go back to work again. One of the biggest surprises to me and is very disheartening, is that the car insurance coverage (Progressive) will only cover up to $15K for his medical expenses. A very difficult lesson to have learned is that the insurance companies don’t explain to you the importance of medical expense coverage, for underinsured or uninsured motorists. They indicate you can save on your premium by electing lower medical coverage. The lease company says you need full coverage for your vehicle and that’s what He pays for. So, everyone who has insurance, please check what you’re paying for. Alfredo never imagined something like this would happen to him. Broken Bones, no car, no job, and soon-to-be large medical bills. So, after waiting 7 weeks with no answers as to when He would have surgery, Alfredo thought of going abroad to have the surgery. Contacting a top surgeon in the Dominican Republic, He will be able to have the surgery sooner with no red tape, no insurance delays, and a huge significant price difference. The surgery in New Jersey is going to cost over $80K, whereas the same procedure in the Dominican Republic will be somewhere between $15-20K. That’s a $60k difference for someone who must pay out of pocket or will be left with large medical bills, no car, and no job after the surgery. Alfredo has presented this idea and has been told it needs to be reviewed and approved by his auto insurance company. Let me understand that the company that will only cover $15k max for medical expenses will get to determine if He can have the surgery sooner and at a reduced rate. They have already made him wait over 7 weeks. So, He is electing to go abroad to get this surgery done sooner and start his way to recovery. God has blessed Alfredo with the strength and coverage to move forward while been placing on this financial roller coaster ride. Any donation to his recovery is greatly appreciated from the bottom of my heart
