Hi everyone, I’m Jessica, and I’m writing this for one of the strongest friends I know, Donaé.

Right now she’s in the hospital dealing with serious heart issues. She came to the hospital on early Friday morning with severe chest pain and shortness of breath, and doctors are trying to find the root cause. Donaé already lives with chronic heart failure and serious heart rhythm conditions, and now doctors found a hole between the chambers of her heart from a previous procedure. Blood is flowing through the hole to the left side which can cause serious complications. They’re doing a procedure called a transesophageal echocardiogram where they put her to sleep and go down her throat to video her heart closely to confirm the size and depending on what they find, she may go into her heart surgery right then or very soon.

What breaks my heart is that even lying in a hospital bed, Donaé keeps talking about getting discharged so she can go back to work. After 5 days of being admitted into the hospital and countless tests showing bad results. She’s not worried about herself — she’s worried about keeping a roof over her head and taking care of her two children.

If you know Donaé, you know she’s the kind of friend who always shows up for others. She helps when people are struggling, checks in when someone is hurting, and never hesitates to give what she can.

Right now she’s the one who needs help. She should be resting and focusing on healing, not worrying about losing everything while she’s fighting this.
