Doña Mati’s immediate family is reaching out to the entire community because one of our own needs help now more than ever. Doña Mati, as she is fondly known, is a pillar of the Little Village community and beloved mother, grandmother, and neighbor who was a victim of a fire allegedly caused by arson on Monday July 1, 2024 at the 2400 block of South Sawyer Ave.

Doña Mati has lived in Little Village for the past 29 years where she raised her four boys and has touched the lives of many other families along her journey. She has helped many people within the community but is now in need of help herself as she is currently in the intensive care unit recovering from the incident.

Her four children and eight grandchildren are eager to have her back home. The family is seeking any support to help cover the unexpected medical expenses associated with her long-term recovery.

Currently, all the families that lived in the apartment building have been displaced and no one is allowed access to return to what they once called home. This fund will help Doña Mati with hospital bills, medication, physical therapy, speech therapy, nutrition, housing, and any other unforeseen expenses that she has and will encounter moving forward.
