My name is Don Cory. I’m a father of two, an everyday working person, and a lifelong card collector with an idea that I believe could change the way people participate in the collectibles market.
I’m building Collectiv, a marketplace designed around a simple idea: high-value collectibles shouldn’t only be accessible to people who can afford to purchase the entire item.
The vision is to create a platform where owners of qualifying high-value collectibles can make fractional interests in their collectibles available through the marketplace, giving more people an opportunity to participate in the ownership of pieces they otherwise may never be able to afford.
For collectible owners, the goal is equally important: create a new way to access liquidity from a valuable collectible without necessarily having to sell their entire interest in it.
This idea came directly from my own experience as a collector. I’ve seen incredible cards and collectibles sell for tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, and sometimes millions of dollars. For most collectors, owning something at that level simply isn’t realistic.
I started asking myself: What if ownership didn’t have to be all or nothing?
That question became Collectiv.
Why I’m Asking for Help
I have the vision, the business model, and the determination to build it. What I don’t have is the large amount of startup capital required to launch a marketplace like this responsibly.
Because fractional ownership can involve complex legal and regulatory requirements, I want to build this correctly from the beginning—not cut corners.
Current estimated startup expenses include:
* Initial legal engagement: $7,500+
* Legal documents and filings: approximately $8,000
* Potential licensing and regulatory expenses: approximately $15,000
* Solutions architect and technical planning: $1,200–$2,000
* Intellectual property and patent consultation: $1,000+
* Website and mobile application development: approximately $35,000
* Initial marketing and customer acquisition: approximately $20,000
Altogether, bringing this concept from an idea to a properly structured and functioning marketplace could require $80,000–$100,000 or more.
I work a normal job and support my family. I don’t come from venture capital, and I don’t have unlimited resources behind me. I’m simply someone from the collecting community who believes he has identified a problem worth solving—and I’m willing to put in the work to try to solve it.
What Your Support Will Help Build
Funds raised will help me retain qualified legal counsel, understand and pursue applicable licensing and regulatory requirements, complete the platform’s technical architecture, protect its intellectual property where appropriate, develop the website and mobile application, and begin introducing Collectiv to the collecting community.
Every contribution gets this project closer to the next milestone.
And if you can’t contribute financially, sharing this fundraiser is just as meaningful. One share could put this idea in front of a collector, developer, attorney, entrepreneur, or future partner who believes in the vision.
The global collectibles market is enormous and continues to grow, but I believe there is still room to rethink how people participate in ownership of the world’s most desirable collectibles.
I want to build something that gives everyday collectors a seat at that table.
I also want my children to see what can happen when you believe deeply enough in an idea to pursue it—even when you don’t start with money, connections, or every resource you need.
This isn’t just about launching a company for me. It’s about taking an idea that started with my love for collecting and giving it a real chance to become something meaningful.
If you believe in the vision, I would be incredibly grateful for your support.
Donate if you can. Share if you can. Either one moves Collectiv one step closer to becoming real.
Thank you for believing in the idea and helping me build what comes next.
