Help Don and Kara Walsh Battle Leukemia

As many of you know, Don Walsh has been fighting acute myeloid leukemia since April of this year with his wife, Kara, at his side the whole time. I am writing to ask you to help these two very special people with a donation. 

For the first six months, Don’s workplace insurance and short term disability protected them while they spent months in hospitals undergoing treatment. He was able to gain remission from AML over the summer, and had a bone marrow transplant in Philadelphia at the end of September – his chance for a cure. It was at this point he switched to long term disability, and he was released from his employment. His income was cut in half, and they are now responsible for COBRA insurance payments, as well as incoming medical bills. 

Don is now home from the hospital and beginning his recovery period. At every stage, he has responded well to treatment, but the journey is long. It is expected he will be unable to work for another 5 months, while they wait to see if his transplant is successful and the leukemia is gone from his body. During this time, Kara will be caring for him at home and isolating to protect his immune system, limiting her ability to work and bring in income.

They do not have enough income to keep up with basic expenses for this next leg of their journey.

I believe many of us who love them will want to help get them through this rough patch. It is hard to ask for help, but they gave me their permission to put this out there, because I know their friends and family will want to help. I know they would be the first to help any of us in a similar situation.
