Hi, my name is Ashley and I’m trying to help my sister raise money for an at-home medical device for my nephew Dominic, which was recently denied through Medicaid.
Over the last few years, Dominic has been diagnosed with childhood arthritis, XIAP, and has had two open-heart surgeries. My brother-in-law and my sister have been doing everything they can to stay afloat and get Dominic the care he needs, which means driving hours to his doctor's appointments multiple times a week, all while also tending to Dominic’s 3 other siblings at home. He’s in pain every day—and yet still his faith in God remains to keep him steady.
Today, they were denied for an at-home medical device that he needs. This machine is used to check his blood thinner levels—too low, he’s clotting; too high, he’s bleeding out. With needing to take him to the hospital multiple times a week, it’s a lot on the family as well as his body. When he gets hospitalized, he needs DAILY checks, which is why they stay at the Ronald McDonald House to avoid so many trips.
The machine is $1500 and the test strips are $300 for one pack; they’d love to get two packs just in case. I ask that you hear our hearts in this and you partner with us to help my 13-year-old nephew…every day HE is a superhero and we simply want to help it be a little easier on him.
If you’re unable to make a donation, please send prayers and share this with friends.
What is XIAP? X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP) deficiency is a rare, inherited immunodeficiency that occurs almost exclusively in boys. Sometimes it is called X-linked lymphoproliferative type 2 disorder (XLP2).
