They escaped safely with only the clothes they were wearing — but nearly everything they had built together was lost. While insurance will help with part of the rebuilding process, it does not come close to covering the full cost of what they are facing. Their immediate out-of-pocket expenses are significant, and that number doesn’t include the many things that simply can’t be replaced. Family heirlooms, photos, furniture, keepsakes, and memories collected over a lifetime are gone forever. These weren’t just “things” — they were pieces of their history, reminders of loved ones, and symbols of the life they built together.

On top of the emotional toll, Dom and Vanessa are dealing with the daily stress of survival without a home: temporary housing, replacing basic clothing and necessities, lost work and income while handling insurance, recovery, and logistics, and the overwhelming uncertainty of what comes next.
