Help Dom Rebuild His Life and Achieve His Dream
Donation protected
My name is Debbie Goldsmith. I am a retired nurse of 47 years, a mother, and a grandmother.
The Lord has put it on my heart to share Dom’s story.
We met Dom in 2007 when our daughter at college invited his sister and her younger brother to Thanksgiving, knowing they spent their holidays in her dorm.
We learned that Dom and his siblings were taken away from their mother when he was age 5, then living with an uncle until around age 12 when he was placed in a group home. They were terrible living conditions in a basement with only cold water for showering and minimal food. The foster adult kept giving the majority of the money for himself instead of Dom’s needs.
Thank God a wonderful caring woman learned of this situation through her daughter and worked to get him out of the group home and into her home. She allowed him to keep his money for his needs.
He graduated from Amesbury
High School, then attended North Essex Community College and Mount Wachusett Community College when he came to live with Greg and I.
He continued on to get his BA in business from Worcester State College.
He accepted a position at a large multinational Insurance company in Webster for 8 years. In addition, he worked a second job at Price Chopper each day after work and weekends.
He saved a large amount of money and spoke often about his dream of buying his own home.
Over the last year, Dom was feeling the need to find a new job . The stressors of inability to get any time off for personal or medical appointments
He never had a vacation in 8 years.
He tried numerous times to see a doctor but only acquired no-show copayments due to his employer not approving time.
As his health concerns worsened, he started walking to work, as he no longer felt safe driving. I encouraged him to leave his job as I was concerned about his symptoms.
He had to quit his job in order to seek the medical care needed.
In addition, he was prey to a scam wiping out his $100,000.00 savings he worked so hard for. This is heartbreaking!!
In addition, he applied for a job and was hired only to find that this too was a scam and they had all his information from his interview and application. When he didn’t hear back from them after being hired, he went back to find a vacant office in the Glass Tower building in Worcester.
I cannot imagine the despair.
Dom was always very health conscious but over the past year all these tragic things lead to anxiety affecting his appetite and leading to other conditions causing malnutrition thus neuropathy symptoms. He would not tell us he was unable to make ends meet.
Dom is one of the most gentle, quiet, and kind young men I have ever met. He is also very intelligent and intuitive but a victim to horrible crimes. Never once have I heard a complaint about his sad childhood and young adult life. He has always been thankful for the smallest things.
He currently is in a Rehabilitation Center working hard to get strong again and he is anxious to get back to work.
I pray and trust God to use this story to give Hope back to Dom and help him get back on his feet and start from scratch .
We are happy to share as of today August 5th we have raised close to $ 3000.00. As I have shared with many of my donors I am shooting for the stars and trusting God to do immeasurably more than we can hope for knowing that whatever is raised will bless Dom abundantly.
God Bless you,
Greg and Debbie
