Help Dolly Fight Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia

Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Haley. I’m starting this GoFundMe for my in-laws who adopted a German Shepherd named Dolly. They adopted her just 2 months ago from the shelter that I volunteered at for 5 years, and the shelter that they’ve donated to every year for countless years. The shelter didn’t have too much history on Dolly except that she’s around 3 years old and she was found as a stray in Sumpter, and had a microchip leading back to Detroit at some point.

Dolly is the sweetest, most gentle and loving girl, and she immediately fit right in with the family, including 2 other German Shepherds. She lives THE best life with them.

This past Friday, Dolly started slowing down out of nowhere. She wasn’t eating, was barely drinking water, breathing heavily, and didn’t want to do anything. On Saturday, my mother-in-law Marie took Dolly to the vet first thing in the morning to get her checked out. They immediately saw that she had a fever, and they drew some blood. The blood work showed that she has an autoimmune disorder called Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA). This basically means that Dolly’s body is attacking its own red blood cells, and they were almost completely depleted. The vet had told Marie that for Dolly to even stand a chance of making it through this, she would need at minimum a couple of blood transfusions, which were a risk in themselves since they could cause blood clotting or other serious complications with the condition she was in. They recommended taking her to an emergency vet that would have enough blood on hand to do multiple transfusions, so later that day, she ended up at Blue Pearl Pet Hospital. Dolly has spent the last 2 nights there, and is there for at least another night. She is such a fighter. Depending on her levels tomorrow, she MIGHT be able to come home, but that doesn’t mean she is out of the woods after that. She will have a long road ahead of her including endless bloodwork, checkup appointments, medication for the rest of her life, and more than likely another transfusion, or multiple. In addition to that, she has a couple of nodules on her spleen that may or may not be a concern down the road, but they have to get the other stuff under control first.

They have already spent over $10,000 of their own money to help save Dolly just within the last few days, which shows just how loved she is. We are asking for help from our community, friends, and animal lovers everywhere. Every dollar raised will go towards Dolly’s medical care, including medications, follow-up appointments, and everything she needs to give her a chance at the life she deserves. A donation of any amount would be so incredibly helpful, a share on Facebook, or just keeping Dolly in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting Dolly and giving her this chance for the best life possible.
