Dodger has been my son's best friend and protector for ten years, always by his side through every up and down. Recently, Dodger developed a neurological disorder that left him unable to use his hind legs and incontinent. He can only walk with assistance and spends most of his time lying down. Because of his immobility, he has developed painful sores on his hindquarters and legs, mostly from trying to get up on his own. Despite my best efforts to care for him at home, my limited resources have made it impossible to get him to a veterinarian. His condition has worsened, and this morning I found him covered in maggots, flies, and ants. I cleaned his area, applied antibiotic ointment, and covered his wounds, but I know I am fighting a losing battle without professional help.

Dodger has always been there for us. When my son is home, Dodger sleeps at the foot of his bed to keep the nightmares away. He’s been the best dog—no, the best friend—a man and a boy could ever ask for. It’s simply unbearable to watch him suffer this way.
