[Dobie has since passed away, on Feb. 22, 2026]
Charner “Dobie” Wright is a long-time performing artist whose guitar licks light up his studio, local festivals, and the lives of the people who hear him play. He is a 64-year-old father of two who has spent his life sacrificing to ensure the success and well-being of his children. He owns C.D. Wright LLC, a small handyman business in Perry, FL, and the work he does in the Florida sun pays for the materials he uses to slowly build his own home—right beside his daughter and grandson. His hope has always been simple and humble: to retire near his family, follow his passion for music and guitar-building, and enjoy a well-earned season of rest after a lifetime of labor.
On Saturday, November 22, Dobie fell from a ladder while climbing. He suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and remains unconscious days later. He was uninsured at the time of the accident. Even so, by the grace of God, he survived the initial trauma, and his doctors see real hope for recovery over the coming months.
We want nothing more than to see Dobie wake to a life filled with the things he loves—making music, building custom guitars, watching his grandson grow, and settling into the peaceful years he has worked so hard for. He deserves nothing less. His lifelong sacrifices helped shape his children into who they've become: a choreographer and director for Making Light Productions in Tallahassee and a published high-school history teacher at Gainesville Christian Preparatory School.
We are deeply thankful for the miracle of his survival, but the road ahead is long. In the spirit of this season of giving—and in Christ's call to bear one another’s burdens—we are asking for donations to help with family lodging, legal needs, medical expenses, and long-term care. These funds will support Dobie while we pursue whatever public benefits he may qualify for.
For those with the ability and kindness to give, we have released some of Dobie’s finest musical tracks for your listening pleasure. If his music brings you joy, we invite you to share it with friends and family as a way of keeping his spirit alive while he heals.
Dobie fought to stay with us in the face of an injury that seemed hopeless. He should not lose the things that make his life whole simply because he was uninsured on a Saturday morning. Please consider helping him recover, return to his family, and one day play his music again. From our hearts to yours—thank you.
