Hello My name is Mamedjarra Diop and I’m fundraising for the development part of my film TEKKI: Memoirs of an African Immigrant.
My team and I would like to start crowd sourcing our funds to create a new wave of initially financing our own projects as most films from Senegal are driven and funded by the French and a Francophone narrative of African filmmaking. We are reaching out to our community to make donations towards our developmental phase. We’ll be going back to Senegal soon to start with casting, crew assembly and we’ll be taking the first steps into finalizing and starting the film.
Tekki has evolved from an original folklore stage play and visual poem that was created in 2016 to document the stories of Senegalese people who make the dangerous journey overseas in search of better financial opportunities. The story is a blueprint created for Africans to tell their own story through the power of beautiful imagery, authentic conversations and raw talent. Tekki tells the story of a young Senegalese man, Yero, who believes that the American Dream is considered for everyone. After living through the struggles as a black man in a country that is systematically designed to target black people; Yero now understands the truth behind the American Dream. He then returns back home to Senegal, with a clearer realization of self worth, which is the blueprint of black liberation, The African Dream.
