Hi, everyone! My name is DJ Adams and after months of deliberation, prayer, and meditation, I have decided to create a gofundme campaign for myself. For those of you who do not know me, I am a courageous black trans femme small business owner with big dreams, who is currently facing financial setbacks due to socioeconomic issues, gender discrimination, racism, and a lack of access to opportunity.

 

The past few years have been very rocky for me and have featured a plethora of highs and lows. Many of the highs were moments when I was reminded by local community members that I am an amazing business person, that my skill set is very valuable, that I am loved, and that I deserve to be able to live a life that is stable and SAFE. I am choosing to focus on the "highs" of the past few years and use that as fuel and inspiration for this gofundme campaign.

 

The lows that I have experienced are very real and while they play a major role in my reasoning for having to create this fundraiser I would prefer to not trigger myself and others while I embark on this journey.

 

Below you will find a list of very important things that your donations will be used to obtain. All of these things are long-term items that will help me to be able to bypass future discrimination and harm a little bit easier. My goal is to be able to use funds from this donation campaign to plan for my future, so I can set up my business for long-term success, and in turn, get to a stable point in my career where I can give back. Over the past 6 months, I have tried to obtain funding for these things on my own but after filling out over 176 job applications *and counting (locally and nationwide) I realized that I need to turn to my community for support. I knew that it would be difficult to achieve employment as a trans person but I did not estimate that it would be this difficult.
