Dizzy isn’t just my cat—she’s my heart. I bottle-fed her and her brothers when they were only 2 weeks old. I was 19 when I rescued her, and she’s turning 10 this July. She’s been with me through every chapter of my adult life.

In early March, I noticed one of her nipples was swollen. At her vet visit on March 28th, two different vets examined her and were concerned about cancer, but they recommended trying a round of antibiotics first to rule out infection. At that appointment, I also pointed out a lump on the inside of her thigh—something I had noticed before but mentioned to the vet after seeing the new swelling. After two weeks of antibiotics, there’s been no change, and their concern for mammary cancer remains high.

Dizzy now has two tumors—one on her nipple and one on the inside of her thigh. Because she wasn’t spayed until age six (before I knew the increased risk), she’s more vulnerable to this kind of cancer. Mammary cancer in cats is aggressive, and sadly, 80–90% of tumors like these turn out to be malignant. We’re hoping Dizzy is in the 10–20% that are benign, but the only way to know is through surgery and biopsy.

Her surgery is scheduled for Thursday, April 17th. The total estimate for surgery, bloodwork, and pathology is $907.40, and that doesn’t include the cost of biopsying both tumors or any further treatment she may need.

Dizzy is also the heart of my foster work—she’s always the first to welcome and mother every kitten that comes through my door, making them feel safe, warm, and at home. I’ve spent years rescuing, fostering, and helping other people’s animals too—but right now, I need help for my own.
