I am Dominique Martin-Yancoskie, President of Haiti Diaspora 360 (HD360). We kick start our Gofundme fundraiser a little early this year. It is mainly due to the incessant and increasing demands for assistance from families in the regions (South East and South) that we serve.
Families in these two areas are facing the burden of having to welcome displaced family members into their already crowded homes. Families are forced to leave their habitat in the capital city, Port-au-Prince and seek safe haven in other regions of Haiti due to the escalating cruelty of gang violence .
According to United Nations International Children Emergency Fund - UNICEF, 80 to 90 percent of Port-au-Prince is controlled by gangs, which causes massive school closures in these areas. Due to the ramp up in violence, schools are not accessible: some are used as shelters for the displaced and others are occupied by gangs. As a result, 200,000 children are currently deprived of their right to education and more than one million Haitians are facing emergency levels of acute food insecurity.
Children are terrorized and traumatized by the ongoing climate of violence. Parents lost their income and are literally unable to financially support their children. Access to a classroom to receive education is more than ever a way to provide some sort of healing and therapy for these children.
On behalf of the entire leadership of Haiti Diaspora 360, we want to thank you for your dedicated support to our mission. We value the trust you placed in our ability to display a face of Philanthropy that empowers, reduces dependency, and builds resilient and regenerative communities. We are again counting on your generosity and asking you to make a tax deductible donation to help us respond to this increasing demand in basic needs such as school, food, healthcare, dignity kits, and shelter.
A little overview of what your contributions have helped us accomplish over the past 2 years:
Education: 2022 : 300 sponsored students / 2023: 600 sponsored students. The goal for 2024 is 1,200 students which we anticipate an increase in numbers based on the facts stated previously.
Agriculture - Seedlings Distribution to families: 2022: 5,250 seedlings / 2023: 18,600 seedlings / 2025 projection: 45,000 seedlings of vegetable products to agricultural households.
Two nurseries were built in the South and South-East region.
** $10 donation purchase a dignity kit
** $50 help a family cover cost of seeds and labor to grow food,
**$212 dollars covers the cost of tuition, books and supplies for a year.
Together we can advance sustainable social change to create a more secure and inclusive future for families in rural Haiti.
"Every good act is charity. A man's true wealth hereafter is the good that he does in this world to his fellows."
(Moliere)
Cordially,
Dominique Martin-Yancoskie
