Help disabled queer get by until stable housing
Donation protected
Hi there, my name is Proxy (they/them)! You may (or may not) know me from communities you are in, but regardless, please hear my situation out, as it has recently become dire.
I am a disabled, queer person, who has been in a housing program for a few months now. I became homeless back in 2019 due to personal life struggles, and have been on and off homeless since then. During this year, 2022, I was able to get into a housing program for queer youth designed to help them get on their feet, and into stable and affordable housing. It has put a roof over my head, given me wi-fi access, and given me the chance to obtain the best job I’ve had. They’ve helped me apply to a priority list for section 8, which I should get by the end of this year.
However, a change of hands has happened, from a very hands on personal director, to a new much more distant one. In a one week span, they decided to reinstate an old policy from pre-covid, giving everyone 6 months from the day they arrived to find somewhere else to go.
I have 2.5 months (as of june 1st 2022).
I make 800-900 a month, and do not have the money to just up and find a place temporarily on my own (I would not be in a housing program getting section 8 if I did not have to be), nor do I have the physical or mental ability to work more than around, 20 hours a week.
With the help of this gofundme, I would start renting a room by the end of august, and during that time period, as long as all goes well and as planned, get my voucher and find a place proper before it runs out.
Currently, my breakdown on how much I need is around 4100 before gofundme’s cut, which if all goes well, should last me until I have a voucher apartment.
This is designed to cover 500 dollars a month for 6 months towards a room rental here in NY, as well as any deposits for said rentals . The rest of the room rental costs, and any other surviving costs, would come from my paychecks, which also go towards food and other bills of mine.
Truly, any little bit helps!
Thank you so much for your time.
To whoever is reading, have a wonderful day.
