Help Disabled Police Officers Family

My name is Lerae and I am the daughter of Leroy and Toni Trujillo.

My dad was a man of faith and a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He was the protector and provider for his girls. If my dad cared about you, you could count on him for anything, no questions asked. Even if you were just his elderly neighbor, you could count on your lawns being mowed in the summer and your walkways being shoveled in the winter. My papa was always happy and easygoing, he loved sunsets, the mountains, sitting on the back porch with my mom and his dog Thor, but there was nothing he cherished more in this world than his family. My daddy was the light, the center of our lives and there will never be another soul like his.

My dad was an Arapahoe County Deputy Sheriff for 15 years. In October of 2015 he was injured on duty while responding to a call for deputy assistance. As a result of this injury, he underwent multiple surgeries, all of which proved to be unsuccessful. He was then deemed unfit for duty and was told he could not go back to work until he had two total knee replacements. However, his orthopedic surgeon decided that he was too young for a surgery as major as two total knee replacements and he would have to wait until he turned 50 to have it performed. Following this news, my dad was placed on leave from his job. He spent the following year fighting for long term disability, during which he exhausted his life savings trying to keep his family housed and fed. My dad spent his remaining years depending on social security and long term disability to help him and his family get by. In October of 2021, on account of the death of his nephew, my dad contracted Covid and was hospitalized. After a courageous, hard-fought thirty days in the ICU, my dad tragically passed away on the morning of November 26th at the age of 47, leaving his wife, three daughters and granddaughter behind.

My dad's passing has caused a significant financial burden for my mother, she is at a complete loss of income as she was the caretaker of her disabled husband as well as her disabled daughter. I created this fund to help our family with necessities like food, bills, electricity and other expenses.

Thank you for taking the time to read my dads story, any help is truly appreciated. Please share his story with others if possible, God bless.
