Help Mom of 8 Heal After Sons Death and House Fire

****UPDATE ****

We changed the title because our dearest brother, Samuel J Fuentes has since passed away in his sleep at our mothers hotel room. This came as a shock and devastating loss for the Fuentes family who are a close family of 8 siblings. The funds for Sam will now be used to support his dream of helping children. Our family is working to keep his legacy alive by continuing his clothing line and creative ventures. Please consider donating so we can reach the full goal, our family and mother especially are in deep pain due to this terrible series of events. Thank you.

****UPDATE****

On the afternoon of March 1, 2021, a fire broke out in our mother, Debbie Fuentes’, home. Our brother, who is disabled, was in the living room when he heard a loud “pop” in the kitchen, then strange noises that he described first as a spoon that was stuck in garbage disposal followed by screeching, ripping-through-the-walls crazy sounds. He smelled smoke, went to his room to quickly call our mom, who was on the way home from physical therapy. After that, he saw the living room filling with thick black smoke and burned rubber smells. He grabbed his shirt and ran out through the smoke to the front yard without shoes, and called 911. The fire department took a few minutes to respond. By then the house was up in flames in a matter of minutes. It took the fire department half an hour to stop the flames. Our brother was taken to the ER for smoke inhalation. Thank God no one was hurt.

The house was determined a major loss and is uninhabitable. The incident posted on several news channels as an attic fire in the Normal Heights area of San Diego, leaving two adults displaced. Our mom and brother lost most of their belongings to the fire or severe smoke damage. Our mom unfortunately did not have rental insurance. She had spent the last four years buying and paying off, one item at a time, furniture, supportive mattresses (back issues), kitchenware, etc., and planned to live there for
many years.

Gratefully, the Red Cross put our mom and brother up in a hotel for a few days and helped with the medicines they lost. Now they are struggling to find a new place to live. Because both are disabled, on limited incomes, and have very little savings, it is difficult to find another rental. They will need help with application fees, deposits, and the huge task of replacing beds, bedding, clothing, kitchenware, and furniture for all rooms. Please consider helping our mother and brother.

ABOUT DEBBIE AND SAM
Debbie is a single mother of eight children who has worked several jobs, small businesses, or been a stay-at-home mom for most of her life. She’s already been through the trauma and turmoil of raising eight kids with limited income to go around. Despite that, she’s always been there for all of her children no matter what they were going through. Debbie always puts her family first and she never gives up. Sam, our brother, has had three operations that have failed, one for the lower back and two for his chest which was the Nus procedure, now outlawed in the state of CA. He is a very talented guitarist who follows his previous love of skateboarding by making artistically designed T-shirts.

While my family is banding together with any funds we can contribute, we ourselves are barely staying afloat during this pandemic. Many of us have multiple children of our own and work lower-income jobs. We are all striving to survive the best we can. We do not look for luxury just the basic needs of a roof
over our heads and food to eat. Thank you for reading. I hope you will consider helping our family during one of the hardest times we’ve had to face.
