The marital assets had been arranged so he would have no access to the money, and property ownership was transferred under a corporate identity where she was now the primary shareholder. His wife is now insisting that he get none of the financial assets from their marriage, leaving him without enough to live on or pay for the property he legally owns only 1% of. She is using the substantial marital assets she took to pay for a high-priced lawyer, while my friend is left with nothing.
