Thank you for considering helping this family
If you are like me the thought of what is happening in the Ukraine is unbearable to think about. So many of us have thought what can we do to help. Here's a way to directly help a family who has been displaced, and is currently seeking refuge in Italy. 100% of what is raised will be bank transfered directly to the family.
In the last few days Maria, a grandmother arrived in the Ukraine from Italy where she works as a domestic helper. She made the dangerous trip to help her daughter and two grandchildren escape. Maria has had her driver's license a very short time and is/was very inexperienced on the road. It didnt stop her from getting into the Ukraine to rescue her family. So much courage.
The children had been sheltering in the downstairs food larder whilst their mother helped the soldiers. Their father, like all males under 60 are prevented from leaving the country. The children, Zikka 11, and Sascha 7 were terrified whilst sheltering in the food larder.
The family bundled into the car and began the 2400km journey to safety in Italy. Imagine leaving your home in this situation, not knowing what's going to happen and what will happen to your husband and father of the children.
And you have to drive all that way as an inexperienced driver, on motorways, across borders.
My friend in Florence, Italy welcomed the family into her home. Its not built for a family but that doesnt matter, they are safe.
The children have been very upset and unsettled since they arrived late on Sunday. Zikka (female) loves study and in photo above you can see she is doing online schooling with her dad in the Ukraine. Sasha is an outdoors kid and is enjoying the quiet of the Italian countryside.
They have the clothes they arrived in, few possessions, no jobs and the distress of what's happening in their country.
If you are able to assist with a donation it will go directly to the family.
If you can write a message to them we will get it translated for them.
If you know anyone in the North of Italy who may have some accommodation they could use, and a job of any kind they would be most grateful. Please send a message and I will forward it on.
These funds will mean they can buy clothes, food and some child friendly items to help them settle as best as they can.
I have a copy of their passports and personally know Dawn, the lady who has taken them into her house, validating the validity of this family.
Thank you for your consideration.
