We are shocked and devastated by the sudden and unexpected loss of Dion Payton who passed away March 13, 2021. He was 70 years old.
He was a beloved husband. His wife Jean says "he was the love of my life for 44 years." She was always by his side through thick and thin and all the ups and downs in life. He was a devoted father and grandfather, loyal brother, son, uncle, friend and colleague.
Dion inspired a generation of musicians. He was a mentor and teacher to many in the Chicago blues music scene. He was admired by blues music fans around the world.
Through triumph and tragedy, Dion was always authentic, generous and willing to help anyone in need. His compassion and generosity was well known without ever expecting anything in return.
