On January 26, 2026, our lives changed overnight when my husband, Bernardino “Dino,” was diagnosed with Stage IV bile duct cancer.

The news was completely devastating and unexpected. By the time it was discovered, the cancer was already very advanced. Bile duct cancer is rare and extremely aggressive, which has made this journey even more difficult.

At first, multiple doctors told us there was nothing that could be done. Surgery, chemotherapy, nor transplant were options. Thankfully, after continuing to search for help, we found an oncologist at UCLA who was willing to take on Dino’s case and begin treatment.

Since his diagnosis, Dino has already been hospitalized three times. He is currently inpatient receiving chemotherapy. Unfortunately, his kidneys recently began to fail, and he now requires dialysis as well.

In addition to UCLA, I have reached out to

MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas and The Mayo Clinic in Arizona, two of the most renowned cancer centers in the world. Both institutions specialize in complex and rare cancers like Dino’s. If Dino is accepted to either program, we will face significant travel costs and additional treatments that may not be covered by insurance.

Alongside his medical care, I am also supporting Dino with holistic treatments under the guidance of a naturopathic doctor. Unfortunately, these visits, supplements, and alternative medicines are not covered by insurance and have become very costly.

Even with insurance, we are responsible for a 10% out of pocket cost, which we know will result in substantial medical bills once treatments are complete. On top of that, Dino has had to put his career on hold, and relying on disability benefits means we are now facing a significant reduction in income. He is a wonderful husband and a great father. Anyone who knows Dino knows how hardworking, kind, and devoted he is to his family. Not only that, he’s a pretty cool guy!

We are asking for help during this difficult time. Any contribution, no matter the amount will go directly toward medical expenses, treatments, travel for specialized care, and supporting Dino while he continues to fight this disease.

El 26 de enero de 2026, nuestras vidas cambiaron de un momento a otro cuando a mi esposo, Bernardino “Dino,” le diagnosticaron cáncer de conducto biliar en etapa IV.

La noticia fue completamente devastadora e inesperada. Cuando se descubrió, el cáncer ya estaba muy avanzado. El cáncer de conducto biliar es raro y extremadamente agresivo, lo que ha hecho que este camino sea aún más difícil.

Al principio, varios médicos nos dijeron que no había nada que se pudiera hacer — la cirugía, la quimioterapia e incluso un trasplante no eran opciones. Afortunadamente, después de seguir buscando ayuda, encontramos a un oncólogo en UCLA que estuvo dispuesto a tomar el caso de Dino y comenzar el tratamiento.

Desde su diagnóstico, Dino ya ha sido hospitalizado tres veces. Actualmente se encuentra hospitalizado recibiendo quimioterapia. Desafortunadamente, recientemente sus riñones comenzaron a fallar y ahora también necesita diálisis.

Además de UCLA, me he puesto en contacto con MD Anderson Cancer Center en Texas y Mayo Clinic en Arizona, dos de los centros oncológicos más reconocidos del mundo. Ambas instituciones se especializan en cánceres complejos y raros como el de Dino. Si Dino es aceptado en alguno de estos programas, enfrentaremos costos significativos de viaje además de tratamientos adicionales que podrían no estar cubiertos por el seguro.

Además de su atención médica, también estoy apoyando a Dino con tratamientos holísticos bajo la guía de un médico naturópata. Desafortunadamente, estas consultas, suplementos y medicinas alternativas no están cubiertos por el seguro y se han vuelto muy costosos.

Incluso teniendo seguro médico, somos responsables de un 10% de los costos de nuestro bolsillo, lo que sabemos resultará en facturas médicas muy altas una vez que terminen los tratamientos. Además, Dino ha tenido que poner en pausa su carrera, y depender de los beneficios por discapacidad significa que ahora enfrentamos una reducción significativa de nuestros ingresos.
