Dima is my sweet little nephew and he is only 3. He lives with his family in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Recently, Dima has been diagnosed with Neuroblastoma – adrenal gland cancer. Doctors from Kazakhstan told my sister there was no cure and no hope for him. How can one tell that to a mother??? That’s terrifying for any parent to hear that the child would die and there is no hope… There is a shock and dreadful fear, but we have to stay strong for our child, not show our fear and tears, and have to believe that our child will live no matter what…

We never think that could happen to us or somebody we love. But that’s the biggest mistake (I’ve learned my lesson), unfortunately, it could happen to anyone. Suddenly you feel like the entire world is falling apart and realize how helpless you are…

It is still very hard for me to control my emotions when I think of what my sweet little angel is going through right now. But there is no time for emotions. Time is a very important factor when dealing with neuroblastoma because it can spread quickly to other areas of the body.

As any mother, my sister could not believe that there was no hope. She had done an immense research and decided to take Dima to  Anadolu Medical Center in Turkey, since doctors in Kazakhstan weren’t able to help.

Dima already had a surgery to remove the main tumor and is going through a lot of tests right now, which would help doctors to determine the treatment that should work best.

I’m amazed how strong my little nephew is. He is my hero and my fighter! I wish I had a superpower to help my little boy…
