On Wednesday, August 27th, I had a severe accident with an angle grinder that severed two tendons in my left thumb.
Currently, I’m in Arizona, where the accident happened. However, I’m insured in California through an HMO.
Fortunately, my HMO covered my emergency room visit. However, California was unable to find a surgeon in network with any availability within six weeks.
I was given a maximum of two weeks for successful surgical repair.
I faced a difficult decision: either wait for a CA-approved surgeon and risk permanent damage or move forward with the surgeon I initially met in Arizona, but pay out of pocket.
As an artist, musician, and builder who relies on his hands for a living, the choice was clear.
Initially, my pride and ego prevented me from even considering starting this page and asking for help. But there shouldn’t be shame in seeking assistance.
I was initially prepared to silently slide into significant medical debt. But maybe with the generosity of my community I won’t have to.
I’m simply not financially able to cover the surgery cost and the upcoming physical therapy expenses.
I wish things were different, but they are what they are.
If you’re not in a position to donate, trust me, I understand. But hopefully you can share it with someone who can!
I find myself feeling fortunate that this injury wasn’t more severe and also fortunate to be in a position to ask for help at all.
Thank you so much,
Dillon
