October 1, 2026, marks 35 years since The Prague Post — Czechoslovakia's longest-running English-language weekly — published its first issue. The paper ran continuously from October 1, 1991 to mid-July 2013, about 22 years of Czech and Central European history reported in English.
To mark the anniversary, we've launched the paper's digital archive at praguepost.org, starting with that very first issue: complete, browsable, and text-searchable.
A new issue will go up every week going forward, the one that ran the corresponding week 35 years earlier, so readers can follow the transformations of that era in something like real time.
Issues from 1991 through 1994 are already scanned and processed. Almost two decades of printed issues remain to be digitized — each page individually scanned, OCR'd, and processed into searchable digital form — to this point funded by Modrá sova z.s., the small nonprofit library and learning center housing the physical archive.
That's where you come in. Your donation supports the scanning and processing of part of The Prague Post's history. You can adopt an issue — one with a special meaning to you, with your name or organization connected with that historical moment in time — or help to fund the project generally.
$30 — adopts a typical full-length issue with its Night & Day insert
$40 — adopts one of the biggest editions, with extra special sections
$60 — adopts a founding issue (1991–1993) — from the paper's earliest years that chronicled Czechoslovakia's momentous transformation as it happened.
Any amount helps — every page brings us closer to a complete archive! Thank you so much!
