HELP DIESEL SEE AGAIN!
The Cortez family and their sweet rescue, Diesel, need your help! Vince adopted Diesel from a shelter over five years ago and they've been inseparable ever since. He's the eight-year-old baby of the family and very loved.
Unfortunately, Diesel suffers from eye issues common for Boston Terriers, and for the past year was only barely able to see shadows due to a detached retina in one eye and glaucoma in the other. Most heartbreakingly, it made it almost impossible for Diesel to see his one true passion in this life--his tennis ball.
Luckily, an eye specialist said they could save at least one eye and give him back his vision again. The downside was that the procedure would cost $10,500.
Watching him struggle to see his toy right in front of his face and knowing there was a solution to fix it was too hard to watch and do nothing about, so the family saved, pooled their resources, and with the help of pet insurance they were able to do the surgery in October! The vet had to remove his left eye, but soon after waking, Diesel regained sight in his right!
The shift in his demeanor was immediate. He went from sleeping all day from disorientation and pain, to playing and following his dad around the house. Everyone felt it was money well spent.
(tl;dr skip to here)
Sadly, last week his vision took a turn again, which brings us to this fundraising request. On Wednesday he woke up and was blind once again. It was devastating. Despite doing a procedure during the surgery to strengthen the retinal attachment in his good eye, it came detached anyway, most likely during his returned enthusiasm for playing with his ball.
If they act fast, the vet can reattach the retina with a laser procedure that has an 80 percent success rate and has basically a zero percent likelihood of detaching again. Why didn't they just do this the first time? We'd also like to know.
But what we do know is the Cortez's have come too far to not try this one last thing for Mr. Diesel. This second surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, November 19 and the cost estimate is $7, 676.28.
Luckily, pet insurance is covering $5700, which is huge. But due to the price of the first surgery, the family is tapped out for the remaining balance of $1977. Vince is attempting to shoulder this additional cost on his own. It's been a slow year of work for him during tough economic times, and all of his extra funds so far have gone towards fixing up his house so his Grandmother can move in. He needs your help.
Vince is the type of person who will lend a hand to a friend at any time, no questions asked, and never seek help in return. Now, let's show him a little love and help him fix his pup's remaining eye! Whatever you can give is more than what we started with, and that's absolutely something.
Thank you in advance for your support, it means so much to Vince and his siblings <3
