PLEASE HELP Diesel and Roscoe
Donation protected
Last year, Diesel was one of over 100 dogs abandoned by Giselle’s Legacy — the very rescue that was supposed to protect him. After pulling him from West Valley Shelter in December of 2023, Giselle’s Legacy sent him to a boarding facility run by someone they referred to as “a trusted friend.” But what happened while he was with that “trusted friend” is nothing short of heartbreaking and inexcusable.
In the four months Diesel was there, he lost 30% of his body weight — left severely emaciated, weak, and with a devastating injury to his tail. A large portion had been brutally sliced off, leaving an inch and a half of bone exposed and the surrounding tissue infected- making a full tail amputation necessary.
But instead of standing by Diesel, taking responsibility, and making things right, his rescue group walked away — leaving him behind to face a long road of medical care alone.
As his foster mom (and now forever Mom), I was terrified. I knew that I could not financially provide for him and ensure that he got the medical care he needed. But we got lucky because Wiley’s Wish — a rescue with a huge heart — immediately jumped in to provide Diesel with the ongoing medical care he needed. Even though he wasn’t their responsibility, they refused to look the other way. They saw a dog in pain and chose to act. Since then, Wiley’s Wish has spent thousands to give Diesel a fighting chance. They didn’t have to, but they did anyway.
But Diesel has faced one medical battle after another:
• Multiple tumors that had to be biopsied to rule out cancer
• Severe and ongoing gastrointestinal issues, including chronic hemorrhagic gastroenteritis that requires constant management and has led to multiple emergency vet visits.
• Severe allergies and chronic ear infections that have necessitated repeated vet visits and expensive medications to manage.
• And now, he’s dealing with a painful and severe aural hematoma — the third one he’s had. His veterinarian drained it last week to provide temporary relief, but the issue quickly returned. And because of the nature of this type of injury, it will keep happening and he will continue suffering. Over time, scar tissue will continue to build up until it completely closes off the ear canal, leading to permanent hearing loss and making it impossible to treat his chronic ear infections. Surgery is the only real way to stop the cycle for good — but it comes at a high cost.
The estimated cost for surgery is almost $1500.
Despite everything, Wiley’s Wish has continued to cover the cost of his care — but the truth is, they can’t keep doing this alone. Wiley’s Wish is currently caring for dozens of rescue dogs of their own, including a sweet 2.5 year old Cane Corso named Roscoe who is in need of approximately $15,000 worth of orthopedic surgical procedures after suffering damage to his hip and spine.
We’re asking for your help to raise funds not only for the surgery needed to repair Diesel’s ear, but for Roscoe’s as well. Every cent raised will be used to pay for the medical care these two pups need.
About Wiley’s Wish:
Wiley’s Wish is a small, grassroots 501(c)(3) rescue that doesn’t just save lives — they transform them. In addition to their traditional rescue efforts, they lead three of the most respected prison rehabilitation programs in California. Their Paws for Hope initiative is one of the very few state-accredited inmate/dog training programs to meet the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation requirements. Participants in the program earn specialized certifications and/or a two-year university Associate of Science degree in Canine Studies & Behavior. Rescue dogs in the program graduate well-trained with AKC/CGC certifications and often become vital service dogs in a variety of capacities.
