Help Diane With Her Battle Against Cancer

Diane Mercier, one of the kindest and strongest people you will ever meet, could use your support right now. As many of you know, almost two years ago, Diane was diagnosed with bladder and colon cancer. She fought incredibly hard for ten months and beat both bladder and colon cancer. She was declared completely cancer-free on April 13, 2021. During the process, she ended up having part of her bladder removed. Many of you may not have found out about her battle until after the fact as she preferred to go on about her life and interact with people as if nothing was wrong and wanted to be the same ole Diane that everyone knows and loves. She refused to let cancer take over and be the center of her life. Starting around this last Christmas time, Diane began to get more frequent UTI’s. Unfortunately, last month, she was diagnosed with another UTI, and after over a week of antibiotics, it still wouldn’t go away. Wiseley, she began contacting her urologist and her GI doctor. A Cystoscopy and a Colonoscopy were ordered, and the results of the Cystoscopy, unfortunately, revealed another tumor in her bladder, bigger than the last. A CT of her bladder was scheduled for around a week after her Colonoscopy. Thankfully the Colonoscopy came back perfect, and there are no signs of cancer in her colon. As of now, the cancer is believed to be entirely localized in her bladder. Earlier this month she had her CT scan, and a plan of action was made by her doctors at Nebraska Hematology and Oncology. Starting next week, she will be undergoing three months of chemotherapy followed by the planned removal of her bladder. Following those two events, she will undergo three more months of chemotherapy to ensure that no remnants of cancer remain and that it has not spread to any other part of her body. After expending all of her hard-earned vacation hours and taking short-term disability during her first battle, she now faces her second without those financial backings. Diane could really use all of your prayers during this time. If you have the means to contribute to this fund, it would be greatly appreciated. She handled everything, including financials herself, during her first fight, and I know there are so many of us that want to do everything we can to help this time around. Her co-workers joke with her that she knows everyone in Lincoln, but that doesn’t just happen by accident, it’s the result of her kindness, great listening ability, and empathy towards everyone she meets, and I have no doubt that you can all attest to this. It is an absolute joy as her co-worker to listen to how she interacts with patients daily as she knows almost all of them personally. Knowing Diane, she will still attempt to work during her fight, but there will be times when she will be absent and miss out on vital income.
