Help Diane Tyler Get a Life-Saving Lung Transplant

Hi all,

We are Diane’s children- Heather, Haley and Peyton, we are raising funds for our incredible mom, Diane Tyler.

On July 25, 2024, our world changed. My mom was hospitalized due to severe hypoxia, which led to heart failure. After a week in the hospital, she was discharged — now fully oxygen-dependent 24/7, unable to manage even the simplest daily tasks, and stripped of the vibrant, active life she once knew.

If you know our mom, you know she’s always been a go-getter — full of life, compassion, intelligence, humor, and energy. She loves the outdoors, concerts, dancing, hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with loved ones. But all of that came to a halt.

Over the past year, she’s had countless doctors appointments, tried pulmonary rehab, and gone through multiple medication trials. Eventually, she referred to the University of Minnesota. The good news: her heart is healthy. The devastating news: her lungs are permanently damaged. She now has only 20% lung function, and doctors estimate her life expectancy is less than five years without a lung transplant. If she’s hospitalized again, they’ve told us the chances of survival are slim to none.

But then — a miracle: after a week of testing at the University of Minnesota in June, she has been APPROVED for a double lung transplant.

This is her only chance at survival — and she’s ready. If you know Diane, you know she is determined, stubborn, passionate, and an absolute warrior. A young death is not an option. She has so much more life to live with her children, grandchildren, husband, family, and friends.

Why We Need Your Help

A transplant is a gift — but it comes with massive financial strain:

• She’ll be out of work indefinite amount of time and has already had to cut her work time back due to her illness and numerous appointments, but is still responsible for home expenses, private health insurance cost, insurance deductibles, and high out-of-pocket medication costs.

• She will be hospitalized for over a month post-transplant.

• She must temporarily relocate to the Twin Cities with a 24/7 caregiver for several months — all at personal cost. Her caregivers will also need time off work to be with her during this time.

• After returning home, she’ll need to travel from northern MN to the U of M every three months for lifelong monitoring of her new lungs.

• On top of immediate recovery needs, she will require lifelong immunosuppressant (anti-rejection) medications to keep her new lungs healthy and functioning. These medications are extremely expensive and must be taken consistently. Even with insurance, the out-of-pocket costs will be substantial and ongoing.
