MY STORY VIDEOTitle: Help Save My Home After a Series of Devastating Events
Goal: $14,000
Story:
Dear friends, family, and kind strangers,
I'm Diane and this is by far one of the hardest things I've ever had to do and if you KNOW me you'd know I can't even accept a compliment, let alone any help so it has to be THAT BAD for me to have had the courage to do this as this is a big ask!
I've worked hard all my life, starting at the age of 12, but now I'm facing the unimaginable: losing my home after 22 years.
I've been a single Mom since my boys were 11 and 6, raised them alone with no help. Bought this house myself but since I was married, had to buy the ex out after a brutal and very expensive horrific divorce in 2007. I've faced financial hardships several times before and my house was at risk but through it all I've managed to save it! This is the home my kids grew up in and the home their friends grew up in.
I've weathered many other storms that impacted my finances but somehow always managed and made it through by the Grace of God --job losses during the 2009 recession, another in Sept 2010 - June 2011, and the impact of COVID-19 which left me unemployed from March 2020 to November 2021 and again in June 2023 when my job was eliminated.
The current job market is the toughest I've ever seen. I've applied to over 650 jobs in 8 months, with little success. Adding to this, my beloved dog passed away in October 2023, and my fiancé, the love of my life, passed away in November 2023. These losses have shattered me.
Financially, I was holding on until March 2023, but my savings have been depleted, what little I had in a 401k is gone, credit cards all maxed out. Unemployment benefits was only $504 per week and ended 2 weeks ago so other than all the side hustles I'm trying to do (hr consulting, selling on ebay/poshmark, driving gigs, on list for uber eats - even applied to a ton of part time local jobs just for cash} its really been a struggle and getting worse.
I tried to get ahead of this in February with my bank but the forbearance plan they initially offered wasn't manageable as it included a payment that was more than unemployment so between that and other utility bills etc I wasn't able to make the June payment so now they are threatening foreclosure as they claim I'm six months behind on payments. AFTER ALL I'VE BEEN THROUGH AND SURVIVED I CANNOT LOSE MY HOME NOW.
I'm working with an attorney to buy me time and stave off the foreclosure process but the amount of my goal is what they're asking for right now. IF I'm able to get them to work with me and it turns out I can buy some time and do NOT need all or some of the money I will RETURN THE DONATIONS!!!
I spend 8-10 hours daily job searching, networking, and applying, but the stress has taken a toll on my health. Despite these hardships, I remain determined and hopeful that my next great role is on its way.
I've endured more pain than one person should, from abuse and wrongful imprisonment by my ex-husband to battling melanoma (had a chunk of my stomach the size of a small filet mignon removed in 2021) multiple extended job losses which depleted any remaining funds I had, losing my father in 2013 as a result of SuperStorm Sandy. Recently, I thought my luck had changed with a wonderful job and fiancé, but I lost both within months.
I would never ask for help if I wasn't completely desperate. I humbly ask for your support to help me save my home. Any amount, no matter how small, will make a difference.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
